Last year, I won my paid fantasy league for the first time ever thanks to an impressive showing by Quarterback Jalen Hurts, Running Back Najee Harris, and Wide Reciever Mike Evans. The largest contributer was DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson Alumni, who, after being suspended for 6 weeks, came back and put up an insane season with the floundering Arizona Cardinals. Going 8-4, I ran through every team in the playoffs to get that sweet 1st place trophy. However, I had to split the money with 2nd due to one of the most insane events in NFL History. This event was the near-death of Damar Hamlin (who is healthy now), which cancelled the pivotal Bills-Bengals match at the end of the fantasy season. Thanks to this, the outcome of the championship was indeterminate, which meant a split of the prize pool. This was alright, I didn't really have a need for the money, but it was an unbelievable moment, and one I will never forget.
Last year also taught me a lot about how to thrive in a fantasy league. Fantasy Football is luck based, and this is due to injuries within ones team. Injuries easily derail seasons, and this is clear in the case of Joe McGullicuddy, who had both of his first picks go out for the season and he proceeded to get last. To prevent an implosion, one should apply the principle of "fault tolerance" to Fantasy. Fault Tolerance is defined as a software system's ability to continue operating when there is a failure. An ideal fantasy team includes depth for the purpose of reducing the possibility of imploding after an injury. As an example, I drafted Miles Sanders' backup, Chuba Hubbard so if the former gets injured, I can replace him with the latter.
This year, I have expanded to play in 3 leagues, all of which are paid.
Of these three, I have already drafted in two of them, and am pretty confident.
One thing that made me happy about this year is that I was able to draft Mac Jones, who is one of my favorite NFL players.
Although he'll probably be riding the bench all year, I still made my team name and logo themed after him.
In the other league I've drafted in, I got the 1st pick by luck, which I was not a fan of.
Because of that, I picked Justin Jefferson 1st, who is an amazing player for the Minnesota Vikings.
This came with the risk of injury, but I was forced to take this risk. Regardless, I am looking forward to the future.
